The Waters Rise

I remember when Hurricane Katrina hit the gulf coast, I was sitting there with my family watching the footage on TV and like the rest of the country, I was shocked and horrified. I wrote "The Waters Rise" in honor of all the lives that Katrina claimed, destroyed, or changed forever.
The world's alarm clock rings
It wakes us from our dreams
The skies open and tears come down
Tears and sweat and blood come down
Oh, the black clouds show their power
They show it all in these final hours
And the waters rise
As resistance fades
Fighting to survive
No one is safe
It's hard enough everyday trying to get by
Then your city falls all around you
And you ask yourself why
Why...?
Then everything is gone
And you don't think there's anything left to lose
But as the days go by
They take your hope away too
And the waters rise
As resistance fades
Fighting to survive
No one is safe
And the waters rise
As resistance fades
Fighting to survive
No one is safe
And the waters rise...
